Surveillance video has captured the moment an SUV ploughed into a Popeye's Chicken outlet in the US, pinning an elderly woman under the vehicle and seriously injuring a mother and child.

In the footage, a woman and child are pictured seated by the same window of the Brooklyn fast food restaurant that the runaway car would crash through just moments later.

Luckily, the pair notice the silver Toyota approaching after it was sent veering off course in an accident outside about 8.30pm.

The mother tries desperately to get her child out of its path but with nowhere to run, the two are knocked flying as the car comes to rest in crumbling debris.

"I was behind the counter. I heard this big impact; it sounded like a bomb," employee Matthew Wilson said of the Sunday incident.

An elderly woman was also seriously injured after being pinned under the car.

No charges will be pressed against the driver.
