A family mourning the death of a nine-year-old girl says she took her own life because she was being bullied.

McKenzie Adams was found dead at home in Linden, Alabama, on Monday.

Her funeral will be held at US Jones Elementary School in Demopolis on December 15.

She had transferred to the school after her mother and grandmother complained she was being bullied at her elementary school in Linden.

The bullying centred on her friendship with a boy, her aunt Eddwina Harris told the Tuscaloosa News.

“Kill yourself”, “You ugly”, “black bitch”, “just die” were some of the taunts used against her, she said.

McKenzie was also subjected to: “You think you’re white because you ride with a white boy”.

Ms Harris said she was speaking out to spread the anti-bullying message.

Her niece loves maths and science and hoped to become a scientist.

“God has blessed me to help others with my platform, and now it’s time to help. There are so many voiceless kids,” she told the Tuscaloosa News. “God is opening great doors for justice for my niece.”
