Man filmed eating hat after losing bet

A US man will probably choose his words more carefully in the future after he was forced to eat his own hat after losing a bet.

The man who has only been identified as the "Hat Eater" posted a 46-minute long video to Reddit on Wednesday, showing him cut up a cotton beanie before slowly devouring it with a Philly cheese steak and washing it down with apple juice.

The man appears to struggle to swallow the material and coughs and chokes throughout the uncomfortable ordeal.

"Apparently I'm the only one in the world who didn't know that your body does not digest cotton," he says.

The Hat Eater had reportedly bet that the value of the digital currency Bitcoin would never dip below US$1000.

Unfortunately, for the cocky American it did.

He eventually finished the hat off in four sittings over four days.
