Madonna apologises for racist slur

Madonna has apologised for making a racist slur on Instagram after she called her son Rocco Ritchie the N-word.

"No one messes with Dirty Soap!" the singer captioned a photo of her 13-year-old son during a boxing workout. "Mamma said knock you out! #disn---a"

It only took Madonna 45 minutes to realise she'd made huge blunder and deleted the photo before reposting it with the caption "Ok let me start this again, #get off my d—k haters!"

While many critics shrugged off the comment as ignorance, others felts that Madonna should apologise for her use of the racist term.

The singer issued a statement to E! News insisting that she never meant to offend.

"I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N-word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur… I am not a racist," the statement read.

"There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention… it was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me."
