A US landscaper was killed and another was critically injured when a swarm of about 800,000 bees came out of an attic and attacked them.

When firefighters arrived at the home in Douglas, Arizona at 10:30am yesterday they discovered the two landscapers covered in bees, with one already in cardiac arrest.

A third worker and a neighbour were also attacked by the swarm, which is believed to have been set off by the landscapers' lawnmowers.

A beekeeper examining a hive found in the home's attic concluded it was about 10 years old and housed around 800,000 bees.

The 90-year-old resident of the home is now staying with his daughter.

Last month another Arizona home had to be filled with foam after a swarm of 10,000 honeybees attacked a couple.
