A US teenager hopes her police officer parents "rot in jail" after they allegedly shot her boyfriend without warning.

"I turned my dad in," Lisa Kepler, 18, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, told Tulsa World TV.

"My dad cannot talk all he wants. He's going to rot, and I hope it happens."

Ms Kelper's father Shannon, 54, has been arrested and charged with the murder of her 19-year-old boyfriend Jeremy Lake.

Her mother Gina has been charged with being an accessory to murder.

Mr Kepler is accused of shooting Mr Lake "two or three times" as the younger man went to introduce himself outside the home he shared with his girlfriend.

"Jeremy walked up to the car and my dad shot him," she said.

"Shot him right there."

Ms Kepler ran behind a rose bush when the gun was allegedly turned on her, and her father's bullet missed.

Shannon Kepler's lawyers have said that he has "a valid and viable defence", but have refused to divulge it ahead of the court case.

Both of the Kepler parents are in jail, but have been separated from any inmates they might have come into contact with in their work as police officers, say those who were until recently their colleagues.

Ms Kepler was both distraught and defiant as she gave interviews and was comforted by friends on the porch of the house they had shared.

"Jeremy was everything. He gave me a place to stay when I had nothing," she said.

"I'm not scared of my dad", she said.

Neither of her parents were on duty at the time of the shooting, and police say that the weapon used was not a police-issue handgun.
