Host shoots guest during live streamed dinner party

A live streamed US dinner party has gone horribly wrong after the host accidently shot and killed one of his guests.

Steven Leannais, 30, was entertaining a group of people at his Cleveland, Ohio home last Thursday, December 8, including his friend Anthony Stanford, 27, when the accident occurred.

Leannais, a banker’s assistant at BBMC Mortage set up a live stream via Facebook showing his friends drinking and enjoying themselves, Cleveland.com reports.

One of the guests emerged from the 30-year-old's bedroom carrying a handgun which he proceeded to brandish towards the camera and point at others in the in the room.

Just before he put the weapon in his mouth Leannais snatched it away and removed the clip.

The man proceeded to put the gun in his mouth and said, "I'm going to do it, I swear to God”.

"The last thing they say is always, 'I didn't know it was loaded," the unidentified guest said.

Standford arrived the party shortly before 10pm from his job as a maintenance worker and joined Leannais in the kitchen to see what he was preparing for dinner.

The 30-year-old who had retrieved his gun from earlier in the evening was holding the weapon by his side when he squeezed the trigger.

A bullet still left in the chamber shot Standford in the upper abdomen. The maintenance worker ran into the street while Leannais called an ambulance.

The 27-year-old was pronounced dead an hour later.

Leannais was charged with manslaughter and his bond was set at $13000.

His defence lawyer Leif Christman said his client didn’t realise the weapon was still loaded and is "extremely sorry" for what happened.

"If there was any way to trade places, he'd gladly do it," Christman said.

"It's so tragic. His friend is deceased. He hasn't eaten or slept since it happened. He needs to get counselling."
