Frozen lake spills onto US highway

A US man has watched in awe as a massive sheet of ice was forced out of a lake and onto a nearby highway.

Matt Smith filmed the natural phenomenon known as an Ice Shove as the frozen waters of Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin spilled on to the road on Friday evening.

The annual movement occurs due to currents or strong winds pushing the ice onto the shore, sometimes creating build-ups several metres high.

Whole Ice Shoves can be amazing to watch, but they are also incredibly powerful and have been known to destroy entire houses caught in their paths.
