Dad gets letter referring to his 'dead daughter'

A grieving father is demanding answers after an office supplies company addressed a letter to him by referring to his dead daughter who was killed in a car crash.

Last Thursday, OfficeMax sent a letter to Mr Seay that read "Mike Seay - Daughter Killed in Car Crash".

Mr Seay's 17 year-old daughter Ashley and her boyfriend were killed in April after their SUV veered off the road and struck a tree in Antioch, Illinois.

Mr Seay now wants to know how OfficeMax knew about his daughter's death.

"Why would they have that type of information? Why would they need it?" Mr Seay told NBC 5.

After receiving the letter, the distraught father rang OfficeMax where he was told by an employee that "it was impossible… that this can't be happening".

The company has blamed a "third-party mailing list provider" for the mix-up.

A statement released by the OfficeMax says: "We are deeply sorry that Mr Seay and his family received this mailing from us, and we are reaching out to Mr Seay to convey our sincerest apologies on this unfortunate matter."
