Eight-year-old boy charged with murder of Alabama baby

An eight-year-old boy has been charged with the bashing murder of a one-year-old girl in the US state of Alabama.
The baby’s mother, Katerra Lewis, has also been charged with manslaughter, after she allegedly left her daughter Kelci in the care of five other children aged under nine, The Guardian reported.
Police allege the boy beat Kelci to death because she wouldn’t stop crying.
She had been left in the children’s care when Ms Lewis and her friend went to a nightclub about 11.30pm on October 11, police allege.
The women checked on Kelci the next day and called police, who found her dead in her crib.
Kelci died of severe trauma, Birmingham police said.
The girls’ friends and family attended a vigil for her earlier this month.
The boy will be tried in family court, and Ms Lewis has been released on bond.
