Two reported dead after 'active shooter' at Texas college campus

A gunman has killed one person before turning the gun on himself on a college campus in Texas, US.

The Irving Police Department said on Twitter there is "one victim deceased" and the gunman has taken their own life after Northlakes College was sent into lockdown at 12pm local time (3am AEST). 

There are reports up to three shots were fired during the incident.

More than 10,000 students attend the campus and those at the university were told to hide under desks as police searched the area.

Northlake College confirmed the lockdown on Twitter, urging those not on campus to stay away.
