Singer Chris Brown has been kicked out of rehab and sent back to a California prison, according to reports.

The pop star is alleged to have violated "internal rules" at the Malibu rehab facility he has been at for most of the past four months, TMZ reports.

Brown was ordered to remain in the facility for 90 days to receive treatment for anger issues and had completed the stint earlier this month when a judge modified the order, demanding that Brown remain in the facility for the duration of his assault trial.

The judge's condition stipulated that Brown would be jailed if he left or was kicked out of rehab.

The singer is believed to have left the facility a short time ago but it is unclear if his alleged removal was related to violence or drugs.

TMZ reports that Brown was caught having an "inappropriate relationship" with a female member of the centre's staff earlier this month but it is unrelated to his leaving the facility.

The path to Brown being kicked out of rehab started in October last year when the singer was arrested for assault in Washington.

A fight reportedly broke out between Brown and two men who attempted to photobomb the singer and two female fans.

At the time of the alleged attack Brown was on probation after pleading guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
