US Capitol Hill lockdown lifted after shooter 'neutralised'

US police have lifted a lockdown at Washington DC's Capitol Hill after shots were earlier fired in the area.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said the suspected shooter has been "neutralised".

Officers have now said the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

There was no evidence of terrorist intent in the incident.

The spokeswoman added they were investigating a "suspicious package" on the lower west terrace of the building, according to the Associated Press.
