Breaking Bad superfan charged with drug possession

Many people who watch Breaking Bad quickly become addicted, but one viewer may have taken his obsession with the show a little too far.

Ryan Lee Carroll, a US "superfan" who won a contest to watch the TV drama's final episode with its stars, has been charged with drug possession.

Carroll, 31, was booked into the jail in Lee County, Florida, on Wednesday and charged with possessing a synthetic narcotic and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, reports Naples News.

He also faces a misdemeanour charge of keeping a shop or vehicle for dangerous drugs.

Though Breaking Bad's main character Walter White (Bryan Cranston) specialised in cooking methamphetamine, that may not have been copied by Carroll. A police report did not specify what kind of drugs he is accused of possessing.

In September, Carroll won a contest sponsored by Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul — aka Jesse Pinkman — to fly to Hollywood to watch the show's finale with members of its cast.

Carroll rode to the private screening with Paul and Cranston in the drama's signature RV meth lab. The party was also attended by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan.

Carroll, who only started watching Breaking Bad in mid-2012, praised the drama for being "highly addicting, just like the meth [the characters] make".

In December, a real-life man named Walter White was jailed after he was caught selling meth to oil field workers in Nebraska.
