Boston bombings victim learns to run again

This is the moment a girl who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombings learned to run again.

Jane Richard, 8, lost her leg and her older brother Martin in the explosion a year ago today, but inspiring new video shows her being fitted with a prosthetic leg that would allow her to run for the first time.

Jane's leg was amputated at the knee while she was in an induced coma following the explosion, which was detonated very close to where she and her family were standing.

Her eight-year-old brother Martin died in the blast, her mother Denise lost an eye and her father Bill punctured both his eardrums.

Jane's youth made it difficult to fit a prosthetic that would allow her to walk, and Jane struggled with an earlier artificial leg.

But now a video released by the Boston Globe on the anniversary of the bomb attack shows the overwhelmed youngster running for the first time in hospital, nearly a year after losing her leg.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who allegedly dropped a backpack full of explosives next to Martin Richard, will face the death penalty if he is found guilty of terrorism charges.

Three people were killed and an estimated 264 were injured in the blast.
