Aust child porn accused in US plea talks

A prominent Australian military adviser accused in the US of uploading child pornography to a social media website is discussing a plea deal agreement with prosecutors.

Dr Adam Cobb's arrest on April 2 in Rhode Island, where he was a professor and director at the US Naval War College, shocked Australian and military communities.

The 45-year-old had worked for the Australian government, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove in East Timor, and the US Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida.

"Plea negotiations currently are in progress, and both the United States and the defendant seek additional time to finalise the terms of a plea agreement," US Magistrate Judge Patricia Sullivan wrote in a court filing.

Cobb allegedly uploaded images of child pornography involving girls to the social networking site, Tumblr.

If convicted of the receipt and distribution of child pornography charge he faces 20 years' jail in the US.
