Aussie Vegas stripper shooter OK for trial

A Las Vegas man accused of stealing g-strings from Australia's Thunder From Down Under strippers and then firing a Dirty Harry-style Magnum revolver at the troupe has been found mentally competent to stand trial.

Joey Kadmiri, 25, faces robbery with a weapon, burglary and battery charges in the Las Vegas District Court for the March 18 incident at the Excalibur Casino on the Vegas strip.

The competency hearing was called after Kadmiri appeared in court on September 2, called the prosecutors Beavis and Butthead, accused his former lawyer of working to convict him and then announced, "I'm really paranoid".

Strippers from the Down Under troupe, who were midway through a show, allegedly confronted Kadmiri backstage after he stole props and put on a pair of teal underpants and a g-string used in the show.

When the strippers confronted Kadmiri on a patio area near the stage he produced the revolver, pulled the trigger and the bullet narrowly missed a stage hand's head before hitting the wall of a casino restaurant.

Two doctors found Kadmiri fit to stand trial.

A trial date is expected to be set at a hearing on October 3.

Kadmiri is being held in a Vegas detention centre on $US500,000 bail.
