Filmmaker wins more converts to Team Australia with Aussie slang gag

A Queensland filmmaker who became an unofficial ambassador for Australia after making a video of people around the world attempting a broad Aussie accent continues to draw converts to 'Team Australia' with a sequel of his popular project.

Queenslander Kieran Murray enjoyed viral video fame earlier this year when his video "G'Day mate, how you going?" saw people of all nationalities try to repeat the video's title in true ocker fashion.

Some baffled participants stared at the camera like a deer in headlights, while others refused to believe Murray was speaking English. But the most memorable reactions he got were when people mangled the line completely.

In the first video - filmed in Europe, the US and Canada - a woman from Austin, Texas came up with "Cheddar may hey hoe" while a Los Angeles resident said "Jenny Armani Young".

The Brisbanite, who now lives in Los Angeles, was so delighted with the public reaction to the video that he has produced a US sequel, which produced equally hilarious results.

Most people don't even try and repeat the line, instead asking the filmmaker if he is speaking English or drunk or simply burst into laughter.

Before finding online fame, Murray’s short film the F-Word selected for the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

The trip to Europe provided the impetus for his first "G'Day mate. How you going?" video as he became fascinated by Europeans' reactions to Australian slang and the accent itself.

"I got a brainwave to start filming people as they attempted to mimic the popular Australian catchphrase and the results were hilarious," Murray told the Daily Mail in January.

"I found that I could get the best reaction from people if I filmed them with no knowledge of what I was going to ask them to say."
