Another oceanfront house on a stretch of US coastline has collapsed into the water, with furniture and debris scattered throughout a beach.

The house, on Ocean Drive in the North Carolina suburb of Rodanthe, is believed to have fell around 2.30am yesterday, National Park Service spokesperson Mark Barber said.

Luckily, no one was in the home at the time.

The roof and top half of the dwelling ended partly submerged in the water while wooden planks, a couch and other furniture were on the sand.

The homeowner has hired a contractor to help officials clean up the debris.

In the meantime, part of the beach has been closed to the public.

"Dangerous debris may be present on the beach and in the water. Additional beach closures may be necessary as the debris spreads and cleanup efforts proceed," Barber said in a statement.

This was the sixth oceanfront house at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore to collapse in the past four years, according to the National Park Service.

The authority said the harsh effects of winds, waves, tides and rising sea levels have contributed to coastal erosion.

The last home to collapse was also in Rodanthe on March 13 last year.
