US prisoners do ‘Mannequin Challenge’ using smuggled iPhone

A group of US prisoners were determined not to miss out on the Mannequin Challenge craze, using a smuggled iPhone to film themselves inside their cell in an Alabama jail.

Dozens of prisoners dressed in white are captured “frozen” in their daily activities in the video, which has since gone viral.

Some are shown mid-workout - completing lunges and push-ups - while others are captured mid-prayer.

The video has been viewed more than 200,000 times on social media since it was posted earlier this week.

Alabama Department of Corrections are investigating the source of the footage, spokesman Bob Horton told AL.com.

More than 3000 illegal mobile phones have reportedly been confiscated from the prison since January this year.

The Mannequin Challenge has swept the internet by storm, with everyone from celebrities to the first lady having a go at stopping time.
