Dramatic rescue from burning building captured in NYPD bodycam footage

The rescue of a woman from a burning apartment building in the US has been captured on a police camera.

Bright, orange flames and a heavy plume of smoke could be seen emerging from a home in the Bronx after a massive explosion.

The blast left one person dead and several injured, according to America's ABC7.

Bodycam footage from a New York Police Department officer captured the home as it was engulfed in flames.

In the video, a person can be heard yelling "somebody is in there", as police storm through the front door.

They were met by a man in a grey hoodie who screamed "right there, under the couch", indicating that someone was trapped.

Police asked him to get back and they pushed on forward into the rubble-filled room, where a woman could be heard.

The vision showed how officers waded through the fallen wreckage to get to the toppled couch.

They lifted the couch and found a woman crouched over, crying and screaming.

Police can then be seen lifting the person out of the room and to safety.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been a gas explosion, according to media reports from the US.
