Firearm shopping channel Gun TV to launch next year

A day after the US witnessed its 355th mass shooting for the year, an American home shopping channel dedicated only to guns has announced it will launch early next year.

The appropriately-named Gun TV will sell firearms, ammunition, concealed holsters and gun-related clothing under the tagline, "Live shopping. Fully loaded", The Guardian reports.

Former law enforcement officers, military personnel and Olympic marksmen will be employed to helpfully demonstrate the available weaponry during the show's initial timeslot, the 'graveyard' shift of 1am to 7am.

It hopes to eventually become a 24-hour shopping channel.

Despite the US averaging 85 shooting deaths a day, and more than 30,000 a year, co-founder Valerie Castle rejected claims by gun control advocates the channel was "the last thing the US needed".

"We saw an opportunity in filling a need, not creating one," Ms Castle told The Guardian.

Ms Castle said the channel is not in the business of selling guns to just any potential maniac, and instead will mail the purchased goods to the nearest federally licensed gun shop.

That gun shop will then perform a mandatory background check on the buyer.

"The vast majority of people who own and use guns in this country, whether it's home protection, recreation or hunting, are responsible," Ms Castle said.

"I don't really know that it's going to put more guns on the streets."
