A 22-year old UK student has been jailed for 15 months after lying about being raped by her ex-boyfriend.

Natasha Uttamsingh went as far as altering medical records to maintain her story that she had been raped, "strangled… to the point of unconsciousness and… assaulted on a daily basis” by her former boyfriend Aakash Andrews, the UK’s Mirror reports.

It wasn't until police discovered a text message on her phone she'd sent to herself from Mr Andrews' phone admitting to the rape that the validity of her story was questioned.

Prosecutor Tony Prosser said the young woman had even changed a contact in her phone to make it seem as if Mr Andrews' repeatedly tried to call her.

"The relationship was experiencing problems and Aakash had said that he wanted to end it," he said.

"When he suggested finishing it she told him she was pregnant. He said he wanted to go away for a few days. She stood in front of him and said she would report him for domestic assault if he were to try to leave her."

Judge Christopher Critchlow sentenced Ms Uttamsingh to 15 months in prison at Guildford Crown Court.

"You have tried to influence a court by dishonestly altering medical records and tried to bring problems into Aakash Andrews’ life and you have succeeded in doing that," he said.
