Tributes have started pouring in for singer George Michael who has died "peacefully at home" at the age of 53.
Michael's publicist confirmed the news, releasing a short statement saying the British singer died over the Christmas period.
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.
Celebrities and fans have taken to Twitter upon hearing the news to share their grief.
George Michael is one of many icons who have passed away this year. Singers Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and Pete Burns, and actors Gene Wildler, Alan Rickman, Zsa Zsa Gabor and The Brady Bunch star Florence Henderson were all lost over the course of the year.
Mourning fans of the talented group of stars have expressed their sense of loss over the deaths online.
