Thousands evacuated after fire breaks out under London pavement

More than 2000 people were evacuated after an electrical fire broke out under the pavement in central London.

The London Fire Brigade was called to Kingsway in Holborn after smoke was seen coming from an inspection cover, the BBC reports.

Crews waited for power to be turned off before they began to fight the blaze.

The road was closed at both ends and shows at the Lyceum, Duchess and Aldwych theatres were cancelled.

The blaze originated in a service duct and authorities are working to find the cause of the fire, the Independent reports.
