Rare white wallaby spotted in UK

A rare white wallaby has been spotted hopping around the English countryside.

Caroline Phillips was riding with a friend when she saw a "white thing" at the bottom of her fields at Salcey Forest, Northamptonshire.

Phillips, originally from Australia, told the Northampton Herald and Post: "(My friend) Florence was adamant it was a kangaroo, I was sure it wasn't.

"I come from Australia where most Australians don't see kangaroos in the wild so it was not likely to happen in England was it? Especially a rare white one."

She then headed back to the stables to fetch her phone and found it had not moved.

"We got quite close to it and stayed in the field watching for at least half an hour," Phillips said.

"We had thought it may be an escaped pet but apparently there have been sightings of wild wallabies before, but as far as I know no one has ever photographed a white one though."

Sightings of wallabies in the UK are not rare - with colonies of up to 120 being found on the Isle of Man after a pair escaped from a nearby wildlife park in the 1970s.

Smaller colonies can also be found in Norfolk, Cornwall and Scotland.
