Prank call DJ turns up for nurse's inquest

Australian radio DJ Mel Greig has turned up at the London inquest into the death of a nurse who died days after a prank call from her and her on-air partner.

Greig and Michael Christian called the hospital treating the Duchess of Cambridge for morning sickness in late 2012 and spoke to Jacintha Saldanha.

The radio hosts pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles, and Ms Saldanha transferred them to a ward nurse who was duped into giving out details of Kate's condition.

Ms Saldanha, 46, was found dead in her staff accommodation on December 7, 2012.

Greig isn't listed as a witness and isn't expected to give evidence at the Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday.

But she walked into courtroom 10 dressed in black, and looking emotional, just before the inquest was scheduled to begin.

"I made a commitment to the Saldanha family that I would answer any questions they have, on or off the stand, I'm here to uphold that promise," Greig tweeted on Thursday morning (Thursday evening AEST).

Ms Saldanha's husband, Benedict Barboza, has also arrived in court along with his two children, Junal, 18, and Lisha, 16.

Mr Barboza will take the stand on Thursday after the corner's officer runs through identification issues.
