Man's decision not to take bus saves his life

A man's decision not to take the bus not only saved him a few quid but more importantly his life.

CCTV footage shows a suit-wearing man approach a bus stop at Dalston in East London to inspect the timetable, The Telegraph reports.

But instead of waiting for the bus the man turns away from the camera and begins to walk down the street.

Moments later he realises that the seemingly innocuous decision was a lifesaver as a four-wheel drive slams into the exact spot where he was standing in a bungled attempt to overtake another vehicle.

The footage shows the white Range Rover violently mount the kerb, taking out a fire hydrant and bus stop sign before a large pole stops its advance.

If the man had decided to wait at the bus stop he would have certainly suffered serious injuries and very likely been killed.

Fortunately the smash occurred at 6am last Saturday so the often crowded area was virtually deserted.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said "the driver of one of the vehicles had left prior to police arrival".

"No one was injured. Enquiries were being made to trace the driver."
