Jessica Mauboy nails Eurovision final

Jessica Mauboy made her bid for Eurovision glory with a joyful, confident performance in a dramatic grand final of the 63rd Song Contest in Portugal.

The Darwin-born singer commanded the stage on her own with the pop song We Got Love in Lisbon's Altice Arena on Saturday night for Australia's fourth bid for Eurovision success.

But the song contest was not without its drama as protesters stormed the stage during the UK's entry, wrangling the microphone from singer SuRie and garbling something controversial into the microphone about "demanding freedom".

The singer kept her composure to finish her song, Storm, which was written by Brisbane songwriter Nicole Blair.

Mauboy's exuberant pop song came as a refreshing change straight after Denmark's singer Rasmussen performed the viking rock song, Higher Ground.

Wearing the same short purple dress she wore in the semi-final, Mauboy was the 16th performer out of a total 26 countries competing, with some of the hot favourites, Cyprus, Israel and Ireland still to perform.

The singer said it was nerve-wracking to be up on that stage where she performed in front of 11,500 people in the arena and the estimated 200 million tuning in worldwide.

But she's also been buoyed up by how well her song has gone down with most of the Eurovision supporters in Lisbon singing along when she performs it.

"That is what my song is about, feeling the love, or maybe the synergy, and I felt that back - it was amazing. Because of you guys, we have love tonight," Mauboy said after she qualified for the final.
