Glastonbury festival-goers face ‘extreme’ traffic chaos
Rain has caused the Glastonbury site to deteriorate.
Thousands of people heading to the annual Glastonbury festival have been stuck in queues for up to 12 hours, as traffic chaos hit all major routes getting to and from the site.
Rain has lashed Somerset, south west of London, for the past week, causing ground conditions to deteriorate.
The festival’s Twitter account said it was “open for business” but advised festival-goers to expect long waits.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the event over the weekend.
One ticketholder told the BBC he had been in the line for more than four and a half hours and only moved less than a kilometre.
"We're trying to get in the campervan field but we're glad we've come today because we think it's going to be even worse tomorrow," he said.
Somerset County Council said traffic heading to the festival had caused "widespread disruption".
Muse, Adele and Coldplay are all playing at the festival over the weekend.
