Cyclist catapulted by hit-run motorist

Cyclist Patrick Knetemann had no time to react when the black VW Golf swerved across the road and smashed into him head-on.

The 34-year-old Englishman's handlebar camera shows how the impact sent the bike spinning wildly through the air as he was catapulted over his handlebars and into the car windscreen, which shattered, before tumbling over the car's roof and landing in the gutter.

Mr Knetemann lay in agony on the pavement, suffering broken discs in his neck and severe bruising.

The VW's driver sped off without checking on him.

Luckily an off-duty paramedic came to his rescue and called for an ambulance, The Mirror reports.

"He came out of nowhere. The impact was so quick I had no time to stop," Mr Knetemann was quoted as saying.

"I hit the windscreen with my shoulder and it shattered straight away. That shows how fast and hard he hit me."

The hit-run happened as Mr Knetemann cycled along a main road in Slough, Berkshire, on June 21.

Police are using his footage to investigate the incident but will not say if officers had yet spoken to the driver.

Mr Knetemann said officers had told him the number plates on the car that hit him were false.
