Chef found dead after inhaling laughing gas

A young British chef has died after inhaling a lethal dose of laughing gas at his home.

Jordan Guise, 21, had been experimenting with getting high on nitrous oxide at his apartment in Beziers, southwest France, on February 6, according to reports.

His boss at the La Charniere restaurant, where Mr Guise was head chef, found his body after checking up on him when he failed to show for work.

A verdict of accidental death has now been recorded by a French coroner.

Mr Guise had called his mother, Leesa Malpas, two days before his death, saying that he had just discovered he and his girlfriend were expecting their first baby in September.

"We were laughing and joking with him," Ms Malpas told the local Halesowen News paper.

"We do know that he died painlessly. He was very relaxed."

The mother of Mr Guise's unborn baby has since moved back to England.

Nitrous oxide, a legal inhalant freely available in Australia, is commonly used as an anaesthetic or aerosol propellant but has also increasingly become a fad party drug among young Brits.
