Bicycle path resembles Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'

A Dutch designer has created an illuminated bicycle path that resembles a classic Van Gogh painting.

The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde bike path near Eindhoven in the Netherlands uses a glow-in-the-dark material that charges on sunlight during the day.

As cyclists ride down the path at nighttime they are treated to an impression of 'Starry Night, the painting currently on display at New York's Museum of Modern Art.

The image by Daan Roosegaarde includes more than 50,000 fluorescent rocks embedded into concrete, Wired reports.

"I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way, the technical combined with experience, that's what techno-poetry means to me," the artist said.

Roosegaarde has now been asked to model bike paths on Zen gardens in Japan.

The bicycle lane stretches on for about a kilometre and is not far from where Vincent Van Gogh grew up.

The project took two years to complete.
