She's a knockout - UFC champ Ronda Rousey talks tactics, women and what's next

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is one of a kind.

In the octagon she is fearless (and peerless) - outside of it she is warm and charismatic.

Her constant smile makes it easy to forget just how ruthless she can be.

Rousey spoke exclusively to 9NEWS, and the 28-year-old Olympic Judo medallist even offered to give us a demonstration.

The arm-bar submission is a hold that gives Rousey’s opponents two choices – submit to defeat or suffer a dislocated elbow.

“I’ve had my elbow dislocated by this twice” she said as she took my arm.

The full execution of the move would see her wrap her legs around an opponent’s torso for extra leverage – thankfully she was wearing a dress for the interview and couldn't demonstrate it fully.

At 28, Rousey is one of the biggest names in US sports.

Ask a high school student in Melbourne or Sydney and they’ll fill you in.

Her film work, which includes Fast & the Furious and The Expendables, has also turned her into a Hollywood drawcard.

She’s also passionate about young women topping the sports world.

“Ambition should be idealised. Not buying things and being dramatic,” Rousey told 9NEWS.

Rousey’s immediate challenge is former boxer Holly Holm.

It’s her 13th professional bought and seventh in the UFC – the fight organisation where she is the highest-paid athlete regardless of genders.

Rousey also has big plans post-fighting – already a social media super star, who’s social media presence dwarfs the AFL, NRL and Cricket Australia combined – she wants to focus on her movie and business career.

No doubt she’ll be a knock out in those.
