Two policemen personally delivered a pizza after a take away store's driver was injured on the way to the customers' house.

Officers Michael Filbert and Royce Curtiss, from Portland in the US, became heroes of dinner and the internet after a customer took a picture of them dropping off the tasty treat.

Steve Huckins and his wife called the local Pizza Hut after their order failed to arrive on September 1 and were told by the manager he would personally deliver a fresh one to them for half price.

However, as the couple sat down to eat their dinner the two officers arrived to deliver the first pizza.

"They turn around to leave, and I said, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa – I got to get a picture of this. No one is going to believe Portland police delivering a pizza.' So that's the picture everyone saw," Mr Huckins told KOIN6.

The delivery driver injured his back and neck in the collision at an intersection but is now reported to be doing well.

Meanwhile the two officers have raised the bar for what it means to protect and serve.
