Two dead and six injured in Texas shooting

Two people are dead and at least six are injured after a shooting in west Houston, Texas at around 10am local time.

A police spokesman said two armed suspects were involved, one was shot by a SWAT officer and the second suspect was injured and taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Acting Police Chief from the Houston Police Department, Martha Montalvo, also said one suspect fatally shot another person and injured three others.

Officers responded to calls and attended the scene at Memorial Drive, when at least one of the suspects began firing at officers.

Two officers were also struck - one was hit in the chest by his bullet-proof vest, and the other was shot in the hand.

The neighbourhood has since been deemed secure.

Officers from the Houston Police Department are investigating.
