Donald Trump says he'd beat Oprah Winfrey

US President Donald Trump has declared he would beat Oprah Winfrey if the celebrity runs for the White House.

He was speaking after Winfrey gave an impassioned speech on Monday at the Golden Globes, which has sparked talk about whether she might run for president

The media personality spoke fervently about race and the sexual harassment of women in Hollywood. It ignited speculation she would stand for the presidency.

But when the US President was asked about the prospect, he confidently predicted he’d defeat her.

“I’ll beat Oprah,” Trump said.

He added a contest against Winfrey would be “a lot of fun” and he “knew her very well”, having previously appeared with his family on one of her final TV shows.

But he predicted the celebrity would not be a candidate in the 2020 US election.

"I don't think she's going to run."

According to a Public Policy Polling survey from March last year, Oprah would lead Trump by a 47-40 percent margin, outside the margin of error.

Meanwhile, Trump’s  daughter, Ivanka, is endorsing Winfrey's message, if not a political future, in a recent tweet.

She wrote: "Just saw @Oprah's empowering and inspiring speech at last night's #GoldenGlobes. Let's all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP! #UNITED."

Actress Alyssa Milano and others quickly chimed in, pointing out that Ivanka Trump's tweet doesn't mention that her father faces accusations of sexual misconduct by several women.

Earlier this week, two close friends told CNN anonymously that Winfrey was "actively thinking" about running for president.

Even long-time partner Stedman Graham gave a less-than-ambiguous answer to the Los Angeles Times on Monday.

"It's up to the people. She would absolutely do it," Graham said.

But Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King, is downplaying any suggestion that Winfrey might run for president.
