Tree trimmer gets stuck in a palm tree and suffocates

A 46-year-old tree trimmer has died after getting snarled in a palm tree in Las Vegas.

Daniel Wynn Smith was high on methamphetamine and MDMA when he got stuck on January 11, reports TV station MyNews3.

Firefighters reportedly were at first unable to see Smith in the tree because of the palm fronds that were hanging down, completely covering him.

They used a ladder truck to cut the palm fronds from around him and attempt a rescue.

Mr Smith was taken to hospital but doctors were unable to revive him.

A local coroner's office said that Mr Smith died due to asphyxia and chest compression and that the presence of drugs in his system were "significant factors" in the accident.
