Toddler survives 12m plunge off cliff in pram with barely a scratch

A toddler in the US has survived a 12m plunge off a cliff, escaping virtually unscathed.

The 22-month old girl was being pushed in a pram near an embankment in Arkansas on Wednesday evening local time.

The mother lost control of the pram and it went tumbling over the edge, NBC News reports.

"My baby, I thought I had the brakes on on her stroller and it went down the hill and I followed her," the frightened mum told the 911 operator.

Incredibly, the girl was not thrown out of her stroller and the pram was stopped by a tree before it fell into the water.

"Not to overplay anything, it's a bit of a miracle that the tree caught her just right and kept her from going into the water," Local fire Captain Josh Chapman said.

"You can call it luck, divine intervention, a miracle, whatever you like."

The toddler had a bleeding nose after the fall but was otherwise unharmed.

The mother and child were hoisted up the embankment on a stretcher by rescuers.
