Today in History - September 6: 'You're strong': Hitman's last words as his target gained the upper hand
A 51-year-old emergency room nurse strangled a hitman sent to kill her by her husband on September 6, 2006.
When Susan Walters came home from work she was attacked by a man armed with a hammer.
In an attack that lasted 14 minutes, she bit her attacker Edward Haffey multiple times, thinking that her teeth marks could identify him as the killer if he successfully murdered her.
But she overpowered him and put him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing.
The only thing he uttered to her was "You're strong".
Police linked the crime to Walters' husband Michael Kuhnhausen very quickly.
Haffey had written "Call Mike" with Kuhnhausen's phone number in his daily planner.
The two worked at the same adult video store, and Kuhnhausen had offered Haffey US$50,000 to murder his wife.
Kuhnhausen was jailed for ten years but died of cancer behind bars.
Though McKinley's wounds didn't appear deadly at first and he survived for several days after the shooting, the wounds turned gangrenous and he died on September 14.
He was 58.
