Today in History - November 30 | Fierce blaze marks the end of 'cursed' cruise ship
The Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro sunk after a fierce fire aboard on November 30, 1994.
About 1000 passengers were forced to abandon the luxury vessel when the blaze started in the Indian Ocean.
It was the final tragedy in a string of disasters to strike the ship.
In December 1981, three passengers were killed during an evacuation after a blaze broke out in the bar.
American singer and ukulele player Herbert Khaury, better known as Tiny Tim, died on stage while playing his hit song Tiptoe Through the Tulips at a club in Minneapolis on November 30, 1996.
During the 1960s, he outlandishly claimed to be the US answer to the Beatles and became popular due to his appearances on television, and his songs played on ukulele with a falsetto voice.
Khaury famously held his first wedding on The Tonight Show in 1969.
Italian astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei began his groundbreaking observations of the Moon with his telescope on November 30, 1609.
The following year he published his studies of the lunar surface which showed that it had a landscape similar to Earth, with mountains, valleys and plains.
But his findings brought him into conflict with the established teachings of the Catholic Church and he was investigated by its notorious Inquisition.
Galileo was forced to recant his studies and spent the rest of his life under house arrest in Florence.
