Today in History - August 10: The terrifying reason New York brunettes dyed their hair in the 1970s
Serial killer David Berkowitz was arrested on August 10, 1977.
The postal worker was behind eight shootings in New York that killed six people and left seven more wounded over a year-long period from July the year before.
Given young women with long, brown hair seemed to be targeted in the attacks, brunettes across the city either cut or dyed their hair.
Berkowitz pleaded guilty to all of the shootings.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed perhaps his most famous work on August 10, 1787.
Eine kleine Nachtmusik, or A Little Nightmusic, was never heard during his lifetime.
It had been sold to a publisher among a large bundle of compositions by his widow.
It would not be published until 1827, 40 years later.
On August 10, 1792, the French Revolution reached its greatest boiling point yet, as armed revolutionaries - increasingly dissatisfied with any form of monarchy - stormed the Tuileries Palace and placed King Louis XVI and the royal family under arrest.
The monarchy would be abolished (for the first time) little more than a month later.
