One of Poland's most loved film stars was last seen alive on August 1, 1944.

Ina Benita was viewed as a femme fatale in Polish cinema during the 1930s.

But during World War II she was arrested over her relationship with a German dissident.

She was set free during the Warsaw Uprising with her four-month-old baby born in prison.

But the city was a battleground at the time, and to take cover she was last seen climbing down into the sewers with her baby.

For 75 years it was believed she had drowned during the chaos, with her body never found.

But Benita had instead fled the country.

She moved to Germany, then France, then Morocco, then the US.

As fans in Poland assumed she was dead, she was living under a different name in America for years.

For the rest of her life, not even her children knew about her past as a movie star.

She died in 1984. Her survival of the war did not become public knowledge until 2019.

In a brazen daylight robbery, two men stole Sweden's crown jewels from a cathedral near Stockholm and escaped by speedboat and jet ski on August 1, 2018.

The thieves smashed a security case and stole gold and jewel-encrusted crowns from the early 1600s before riding on two stolen black bicycles to a nearby lake.

The stolen artifacts were worth about $10m and included a gold crown and an orb dating to 1611 as well as a jewel-encrusted crown dating to 1625.

Swedish police said they would be almost impossible to sell because of their uniqueness and high visibility

They were recovered In 2019 when the thieves were arrested and convicted of attempted robbery.
