Three people shot dead outside swimming pool in Spalding, UK

A man has killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life outside a swimming pool in England's east.

Lance Hart is believed to have fatally shot his wife Claire, 51, and their 19-year-old daughter Charlotte outside the Castle Swimming Pool in Spalding overnight, The Mirror reports.

Police were called to the crime scene on Pinchbeck Road in Spalding, about 160km north of London, at 6pm on Tuesday (9am GMT).

Superintendent Paul Timmins told a press conference the man was dead and the women were severely injured when police arrived at the scene.

"CPR was attempted on both women but I'm sad to report that both have women subsequently died," he said.

"We believe a shotgun was involved in the incident and are currently investigating this tragic incident."

He added that no shots were fired by police and the killing was not a "terrorist incident".

At least one school in the vicinity was placed in lockdown in the immediate aftermath of the incident when details about what had happened were unclear.

Spalding Castle ward district councillor Gary Taylor said locals were "very shocked" by the incident. 

"It's a very quiet place, gun crime does not exist in this area at all. It's shocking news," he said.

A neighbour of the Hart family who only wanted to be identified as Peter said Lance Hart was "the nicest guy you could ever meet" and "would do anything for anyone".

Another neighbour who did not want to be named said the Harts were "an absolutely lovely family".
