Thief ram-raids store for single banana

A US thief has used a car to smash through the front doors of a closed petrol station to steal a single banana, casually eating it inside before driving away.

Police were called to the store in Hartford, in the US state of Connecticut, early on January 9 after the burglar alarm went off, the New York Daily News reports.

When they arrived they found the store had been ram-raided but the contents appeared untouched.

When they checked the store’s CCTV footage they saw a station wagon repeatedly driving into the glass doors to break through.

Making no attempt to conceal his face, the man then slipped inside and devoured his late night snack.

“The suspect selected a banana from a shelf, peeled and ate the fruit and then exited the store,” police said in a statement.

“No other items were taken during the burglary.”

Authorities are now searching for the robber.
