What’s it like to have 20,000 people booing you?

That’s what US correspondent Charles Croucher and other media experienced as Donald Trump launched his bid for re-election in 2020.

In his 'greatest hits' performance he’s taken aim at familiar targets - Hilary Clinton and the media - and launched a revamped slogan.

“You hear those three-word slogans which became so famous in 2017, lock her up, build the wall, drain the swamp – Hillary Clinton is not even running but she was still very much the focus. This time we got a new three-word slogan: Keep America Great," said Charles Croucher.

"I think a lot of it is theatre. [As the press] You certainly get all the boos and there might have been a dozen times the President pointed out the press riser to everyone in the crowd and having 20,000 people boo you is not a nice experience, but then when you get down to speak to them they are so excited to talk to people.

"They still trumpet those same lines but this is a colourful crowd, people who have driven or flown for a day and they are committed."

Brett McLeod spoke to Charles Croucher immediately after the Trump rally in Florida.
