Teenage golfer’s once in a lifetime shot

It's the once in a lifetime shot that has elevated a teenage golfer above the greats of the game.

And if it's a pointer of things to come, 17-year-old Christopher Meyers has a gold plated future in the game.

The American youngster has grabbed a slice of history after landing the first ever albatross in a tournament at Pebble Beach in the hallowed course's 95-year history.

The big hitting Meyers was playing his second shot on the par-5 18th hole when he landed this amazing double eagle from 203 yards at the Champions Tour’s Nature Valley First Tee Open.

Not only did it give him a score even Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have never achieved, but it also helped the teen secure a stunning joint win with Lee Janzen in the junior-pro competition.

An overjoyed Meyers was in disbelief when he spoke about the shot to a gobsmacked media following the round.

"I was just stunned," Meyers told the San Francisco Chronicle afterward. "I couldn’t believe the ball went in the hole from there."

Meyers' tournament-winning shot was all the more remarkable given that a lucky bounce off the rocks saved him from spraying his tee shot into the Pacific Ocean, which laps the beachfront course.

Fortunately the ball landed in a friendly fairway position allowing him the opportunity to create history.

"I didn’t see the ball at first, but it came down directly on line with the pin," said Meyers' playing partner, Janzen.

"It was as pure a shot as can be."
