Swedish teens’ battle with monster fish goes viral

A pair of Swedish teens have become an online sensation after their epic struggle to reel in a monster fish went viral.

Cousins Jonathan and Joel Salomonsson, aged 15 and 16, hooked the northern pike weighing 14kg on a Swedish lake during a weekend fishing trip, English-language Swedish news site The Local has reported.

The pair had their smartphone on hand to record the footage as they wrestled the huge fish towards their boat.

Their very vocal enthusiasm crossed language barriers, with many sharing the viral video after they uploaded it to YouTube under their profile Two Hunters.

The monster pike measured 123cm long and weighed 14.09kg - above the average size for the species but below the official record of a 25kg fish caught in Germany in 1986.
