Swarm of bees sends Londoners running for cover

In scenes straight from a Hollywood movie, a swarm of bees sent pedestrians scattering on a busy London street.

Video of Tuesday's bee invasion in the suburb of Greenwich, in the UK capital's south east, was posted on social media by a local shop owner, reports the Evening Standard.

Footage showed people ducking for cover while others simply stopped and stared at the bizarre sight.

A few realised the humorous side and started laughing at the insects.

The sky is shown filled with black specks, just like the 1978 horror-disaster movie, The Swarm, starring Michael Caine.

They soon descended to street level, completely covering a set of traffic lights.

Authorities called in a professional beekeeper who used a portable hive to capture the swarm.
