Student body-slams teacher for confiscating his phone
A 16-year-old boy in the US is facing criminal charges after he was filmed slamming his teacher to the floor after the man confiscated his mobile phone.
Cell phone video filmed by a classmate shows the ninth grader with his arms wrapped around the 62-year-old teacher at John F Kennedy High School in Paterson, New Jersey earlier this month.
In the 23-second clip, the teenager knocks the physics teacher into an empty desk in an effort to get his phone back.
The boy wrestles the teacher across the front of the classroom before throwing him down onto the ground in front of other students.
He then reaches down and grabs an item believed to be the confiscated phone before walking away when someone in the classroom yells "Security!".
The teacher, who has taught at the school since 2003, filed a complaint against the student earlier this week, a spokeswoman said, and Paterson police said they arrested him at his home on Friday.
"We took a statement from the teacher today," police captain Heriberto Rodriguez told the NorthJersey.com.
"After that, we went out and found the juvenile and arrested him."
The teenager was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, the captain said.
District officials have not revealed the name of the teacher or student.
